People hear “diagnostic” and brace for a 60-page PDF. That is not what a SPOT Check is. It is a structured look at four dimensions that decide whether growth will stick: Strategy, People, Operations, and Technology. We use it to find the throttle—not to impress a board with jargon.
Strategy
Are priorities clear enough that a mid-level manager can say no to the wrong work? Or does everything feel urgent because nothing is ranked? Strategy gaps show up as thrash: projects start, stall, and restart when leadership changes its mind weekly.
People
Roles, load, and retention. Who is the hero? Who is drowning? Where does knowledge live only in one head? People problems masquerade as “we need more software” all the time. Usually they need clearer ownership and a saner pace.
Operations
Handoffs, cadence, quality loops. Can work move without the founder in the middle? Where do tickets, jobs, or orders stall? Ops is where leaky buckets show up—revenue looks fine while delivery quietly erodes margin.
Technology
Adoption first, architecture second. A perfect integration map means nothing if the team still runs the real process in a private spreadsheet. We look for shelfware, broken syncs, and automation that never left the pilot.
What SPOT is not
- A guarantee that we are the right partner—sometimes we will say so.
- A substitute for your leadership making hard calls.
- An endless research project. We bias toward actionable findings fast.
A 15-minute Peace Talk is often enough to know whether a deeper SPOT Check is worth it. If it is, we map the Path to PEACE from there. If it is not, we will say that too. We limit Peace Talks each week on purpose—client delivery comes first.
